Junior Nathan Sandford was recently selected as a recipient of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Through this prestigious scholarship Sanford, an astronomy major, will receive up to $7,500 per year for academic expenses to aid in his ultimate goal of a Ph.D. in astrophysics. Senior Physics majors Scott Tan (left) and Andy Biekert (right) were recently awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships. Tan will study materials engineering at MIT, and Biekert will study atomic, molecular and optical physics but hasn’t decided where he will study. Also alum Ben Murphy ’13 was selected for a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. He is headed to Oregon State University to study geophysics.
